Who doesn’t love a girls trip?! Getaways with your girlfriends are so good for the soul. Whether you’re traveling with college friends, your childhood besties, or your built-in best friend (aka your sister!), girls trips are the best. There are countless options for getaways with your gals around the world. In the United States alone, there are countless cities that are becoming more and more popular for bachelorettes and girls trips. This blog post is going to run through ~3 day girls weekend getaway ideas for the US, specifically in the northeast region. Similarly, this article covers girls weekend ideas for the southeast.

1. Adult Summer Camp In The Berkshires
I hope this blog post shines light on the “trendy” girls weekend getaway hot spots around the US, but also inspires you to pursue something a bit more unique for your girl gang. To kick us off with a more unique option, consider spending a long weekend away at summer camp!
You heard that right. Did you know there are adult summer camps?! And there’s one located right in the Berkshires region of western Massachusetts. The Berkshires is a rural region in the mountains of western Massachusetts dotted with villages and towns. A popular vacation destination, it’s known for outdoor activities, a farm-to-table food scene, and thriving arts institutions. It’s also a popular spot on New England fall road trips.
Camp Wylo is a lakeside summer camp for grown-ups, taking place in the beautiful Berkshires region of Massachusetts THIS June! Campers can expect a weekend full of childhood camp fun and old school activities. The Camp’s mission is to “host a weekend getaway for adults to unplug, create memories, and enjoy old school fun”. The camp weekend will consist of traditional summer camp activities on the lake, competitions, and leisure time so guests can make meaningful relationships and enjoy life’s simple pleasures in the great outdoors.

2. Lighthouses Of Cape Cod
Cape Cod is just Heaven on Earth during the summer months. There are so many quaint towns here to stay in, but the most famous are probably Falmouth, Chatham, and Hyannis. All 3 areas have ferries to nearby Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket islands too.
Since no girls weekend getaway is complete without some vino, I recommend spending an afternoon at the Cape Cod Winery. They have flights so you can sample a mix of whites & reds, and also little cheese boards and appetizers. Prefer beer? Bad Martha’s Brewery is the place to be.
Interested in group travel? I used to work for EF & have traveled with them many times! I can’t say enough good things about EF Ultimate Break’s hundreds of affordable & fun group trip itineraries around the world. You can pay for the trips overtime each month, and fun fact — over 70% of travelers go solo! I am a proud EF Ultimate Break brand ambassador — Get $100 off your first trip by using my link here.

3. Nantucket Girls Weekend Getaway
I think Nantucket wins the award for being the most charming girls weekend getaway on this list. If you’re looking for a posh, preppy, and insanely pretty place — Nantucket is for you. The ferry operates on rotation during the peak season from Hyannis in Cape Cod. Once you’re in Nantucket, you don’t necessarily need a rental car if you stay in the main downtown area near the wharf. The shops, bars, and restaurants are all walkable. There’s also a free shuttle to bring guests to the Cisco Brewery (which is a must!). I also recommend booking a historical walking tour here to explore the downtown!

If you’re looking to visit the beaches or the Siasconset area, you can ride the Wave shuttle from May – October. You can also pay extra to ferry your car over with you. Be sure to dance the night away at the Chicken Box when you visit!
4. Gingerbread Houses Of Martha’s Vineyard
Speaking of charming girls weekend getaway ideas, this list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Martha’s Vineyard. Martha’s Vineyard is like Nantucket’s big sister — just as beautiful, but a bit larger than life. Martha’s Vineyard is also generally a bit more affordable than Nantucket, making it more family-friendly. However, the gingerbread houses in Oak Bluffs, multitude of seafood restaurants, and wine bars make it the perfect girls trip destination.
Pro-tip: You can actually visit Martha’s Vineyard really easily in a day from Boston! This day trip, provided by Viator, is one of the most highly rated tours in all of the northeast. It includes an air-conditioned bus ride to the ferry, and activities + tours on the island… check it out… it’s award-winning!

5. Stroll The Cliff Walk In Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is the cutest coastal New England destination for a girls trip. The charming downtown is speckled with quaint boutiques and yummy seafood restaurants. During the summer months, you can enjoy refreshing cocktails on an outdoor patio during happy hour before making your way to the Black Pearl — my personal favorite seafood restaurant in the area.
Also be sure to do the 3 mile Cliff Walk to enjoy the sweeping views of the Atlantic and be amazed by the historic mansions that line the coast. If you have time, you could even tour a house or two. The Breakers and the Elms are the most famous — and can be seen on this top-rated Newport Gilded Age Mansions Trolley Tour. This area comes to life during the holiday season if you’re looking for girls trip ideas during the winter in New England.
If you visit Newport during the summer months, I recommend taking a catamaran ride. There are numerous companies that offer sunset cruises with open bars and charcueterie boards…. The perfect girls weekend getaway if you ask me.

6. Boat Day On Lake Winnipesaukee
Nothing screams “girls trip” like getting a little buzzed on a boat. Although I love the ocean, the lakes in the northeast of the US are a must on a New England bucket list, especially in the summer months. Lake Winnipesaukee is my personal favorite. Since it’s the largest lake in New Hampshire, it has a lot to do.
You and your girlfriends can hike up Mount Major, which has an incredible view of the area for being a fairly short and easy climb. There’s also the Town Docks area in Meredith which is a fun place to grab a bite of eat or ice cream. It would also be a crime to not mention the mudslides here. They are truly to die for. Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough is also cute to tour with girlfriends.
7. Winter Weekend In Stowe, Vermont
Stowe, Vermont deserves a mention on this list because of how beautiful the surrounding area is. Stowe’s downtown is quite small (picture: a café or two, a church, a few shops, and a covered bridge), but there’s a lot of options for everyone’s interests here, making it the perfect destination for a girls trip.
If you’re visiting during the fall or winter months, I highly recommend hiking or skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort. If you’re looking for a unique accommodation option that feels like Europe but is a fraction of the cost, head to the Von Trapp Lodge. I have an entire post about spending a winter weekend in Stowe that I recommend reading if you want to plan your girls trip here!

8. Visit Coastal Maine
Portland, Maine is a up & coming bachelorette party destination and is also the perfect place for a girls weekend getaway. The front historic street of the Old Port, Commercial Street, is dotted with restaurants and fun bars for nightlife. The Portland Head Light is also a must since it’s the most photographed lighthouse in the US! Other notable mentions for charming towns in the area include: Kennebunkport, Ogunquit, and York.
Pro-tip: Want to visit from the Boston area but don’t have a car? This Maine Coast & Kennebunkport Day Trip will bring you by bus!

9. Broadway Shows In New York City
Looking for some award-winning entertainment to enjoy on your girls weekend getaway in the northeast? Consider a few nights in the Big Apple on a New York City weekend getaway! From strolling through Central Park to soaking up the art in the MET, there’s truly something for everyone in New York. Check out this New York City bucket list!
Pro-tip: Want to escape the city for the day? Coastal Connecticut is beautiful. Greenwich is only 30 minutes outside of the city on the Metro-North train and has an array of shopping and dining options in the historic, waterfront downtown.

10. Finger Lakes, NY Wine Country
Located in upstate New York between Rochester and Syracuse, the Finger Lakes are a group of 11 long, narrow lakes located directly south of Lake Ontario. This area is known for its wine country.
The Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail is a small but robust wine trail that starts in Victor, continues through downtown Canandaigua, and runs along the western side of Canandaigua Lake to Naples. It is a 30-mile experience of Finger Lakes wine and food tastings, that will bring you through large and small wineries, a brewery, and a variety of shops and restaurants — all with breathtaking scenery along the way. Add this northeast girls weekend getaway idea to the top of your list!
11. Girls Weekend Getaway To The Jersey Shore
Oh, baby. The Jersey Shore just HAD to make this list for northeast US ideas. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches to soak up the summer sun, boardwalks for day drinking, or seafood restaurant rooftops, the Shore has it all. The New Jersey Atlantic Ocean coastline is roughly 130 miles with dozens of towns to visit. My favorite areas to visit with girlfriends are LBI (Long Beach Island), specifically Surf City and Beach Haven. Cape May, located at exit 0, is also a favorite. It is super charming — especially the Washington Street Mall area.
12. Autumn In Annapolis, Maryland
Annapolis is Maryland’s capital city. I first visited here during my 50 states challenge and can’t wait to go back. Its historic district includes 18th-century brick houses and the Maryland State House. The sprawling waterfront grounds of the United States Naval Academy are also beautiful to stroll through! Be sure to try a crab cake and hit the boutiques here during your girls weekend getaway, ideally during the warmer months to soak up the sun!
Honorable Mention: Quebec City, Canada
I’m calling this one a honorable mention because Quebec City is in Canada, not the US! But it is a PERFECT weekend trip to take in the northeast. I just visited Quebec City in the winter with my family, but couldn’t recommend it more for a girls trip. The city feels so European, but if you’re coming from the northeast of the US, it’s drivable. The boutique hotels here have so much character and the cobblestone alleyways are perfect for exploring on foot.
That brings us to the end of this guide all about the best girls weekend getaways in the northeast of the US! I hope this guide inspires your next trip. Whether it’s summer camp in the Berkshires or crab cakes in Annapolis, the options are endless. Want to visit the southeast? Check out my girls trips guide for the south!
